Healthcare
Memorial Hospital of Union County is a 107-bed acute and primary health care facility servicing the fourth fastest growing community in central Ohio. A not-for-profit organization, Memorial Hospital provides a wide range of diagnostic, treatment and comprehensive care services to Union and surrounding counties.
Over 55 years ago the hospital’s founders made a commitment to keep personalized, quality health care close to home. Today, that commitment is honored by more than 700 employees, a physician staff of over 170 and more than 400 active adult and junior volunteers. The hospital offers a full range of services including acute care services, obstetrics, surgery, emergency, imaging, physical therapy, laboratory, home health, cardiopulmonary, sleep lab, and an outpatient clinic for specialty services such as neurology, gastroenterology, oncology, orthopedics, plastic surgery and vascular services.
The Miracle Life Center has put a new face on the hospital by adding much needed space to the busy labor and delivery unit. It is located within the larger Women’s Health Center that boasts a state-of-the-art mammography suite complete with the R2 ImageChecker®, an added diagnostic tool. Also located there is the latest bone densitometry technology, and a comfortable conference room for community meetings, classes and support groups.
In the lower level of the Women’s Health Center is the recently renovated Sleep Lab. Designed with our patient’s comfort in mind, the lab is located away from other patient areas for added quietness. The relaxing, spa-like design features four patient rooms with many amenities, including private bathrooms, Select Comfort® adjustable firmness beds, internet access, and handicap accessibility.
One special feature of the Imaging department is the dual source CT scanner. This scanner is able to capture cardiac images as fast as any heart can beat; something traditional scanners cannot accomplish. This allows Memorial’s expert team of physicians to gain critical information about a patient’s heart with clear, detailed two and three dimensional images and avoid the need for beta-blockers. The dual source CT also provides physicians and patients with advantages in accuracy, reduced exposure to radiation and early detection of disease and trauma.
New to Memorial Hospital is the HD (high definition) video imaging tower. Acquired through the philanthropic efforts of the Development Council, this technology provides exceptional image clarity for precise operating and diagnosis. Additionally, improved depth of focus and color contrast will assist the physicians and staff who utilize it. Allowing for minimally invasive surgery, many patients experience reduced discomfort and faster recovery times thanks to this addition.
Memorial’s dedication to the entire community is demonstrated in management of its behavioral health unit and The Gables at Green Pastures, a long-term care facility. The Gables is located in a friendly neighborhood setting where its staff attends to their family of residents who have needs for skilled, dementia and intermediate care.
In keeping the needs of the community at its forefront, Memorial Hospital and The Gables stay actively engaged in enhancing the patient and resident experience. Recent enhancements include free internet access at both facilities for patients, residents, and guests, improved parking and walk ways at Memorial Hospital and a new bird aviary at The Gables.
Not only does Memorial Hospital care for community members - its employees are community members. Of its 700 plus employees, nearly 70% are Union County residents. Giving of both time and money, the organizations contribute in various ways including Memorial Meals, which delivers hot, nutritious lunches to area residents unable to prepare meals themselves, health fairs, free health education sessions, expert speakers, and over $29 million in salaries and benefits.
Somewhere between the need for an Emergency Room and a regular doctor visit is the need for urgent care. That’s why Urgent Care by Memorial Hospital of Union County opened in September of 2005. Patients are seen quickly by a physician with lab tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures provided onsite. Treatment for minor injuries, aches and pains, colds, sore throats, upset stomach and a host of other problems is fast and convenient.
To better serve the residents of Union County and its surrounding communities, the Mill Valley Medical Building was established. Featuring a convenient location and family-friendly atmosphere, this new office is home to Marysville Pediatrics and Marysville Orthopedics, LLC.
Union County also offers personalized long-term care for loved ones who desire the specialized attention of a retirement home in a friendly neighborhood setting. Heartland of Marysville offers physical, occupational and speech therapy rehabilitation on-site with in-house employees. They also offer 24-hour skilled and intermediate nursing care. Milcrest Nursing Center also offers physical, occupational and speech therapy rehabilitation along with 24-hour skilled and intermediate nursing care. Finally, Carriage Court offers 24-hour skilled and intermediate nursing care with a special Alzheimer’s unit.
Union County offers a wide variety of other health care services, including quality dental and optical care; hospice care and many others. See the directory listing for more information.
